Funding Programs of NSFC Science and Research Instrumentation
This invited report will provide a comprehensive overview of the evolution of science funding systems and their peer-review models. It will also discuss strategies for expanding joint funding programs through increased societal investment, emphasizing their critical role in fostering interaction between basic research and practical applications. Finally, the presentation will address the development and administration of dedicated research instrumentation funding as a key component of advancing research infrastructure and scientific progress.
Biography
Zhang Zhaotian is a Researcher at the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Prior to joining NSFC, he spent over a decade at Beijing Information Science and Technology University, conducting research in inverse problems and computed tomography imaging. His related achievements in detection and imaging have been applied to aerospace science and technology. As a key contributor, he has received a provincial/ministerial-level first prize and a National Science and Technology Progress Award (Second Class). Since transferring to the Department of Information Sciences at NSFC in 1998, he has been engaged in the management of natural science funds for 24 years. In 2003, he was a visiting scholar at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, where he conducted research on the theory and technology of industrial process tomography.
